Making money by having people buy tumbleweeds. Overview: A Midwestern entrepreneur, Linda Katz, started The Prairie Tumbleweed Farm as a joke in 1994. The idea behind the business was really to learn how to create a website. As it turns out, prospective buyers did not realize the website was just a training exercise and began inquiring about possible purchases. Now the business is not only real, but also provides the Midwestern entrepreneur with more than $40,000 a year in income. One average, Linda receives 15 orders per week and sells each tumbleweed for $15 for a small one, $20 for a medium and $25 for large. The client list for The Prairie Tumbleweed Farm is filled with interesting names such as NASA, which used tumbleweeds when they were designing their Mars Tumbleweed rover. Hollywood film companies have also purchased tumbleweeds for their projects. Johnny Depp's "Neverland", for example, utilized tumbleweeds in its scenes. Source: Yahoo!
