Overview:

Everyone makes special arrangements to handle daily duties while they go on vacation. However, for pet owners or farmers who are simply cannot take their animals on their trips, unique services must be called in to help.  Lucky for them, livestock and pet sitting services are starting to appear throughout the country.

A pet sitter is simply someone hired to take care of animals while the owner is away.  The individual is normally specially trained in the care of house pets and livestock, and can handle basic chores aside from handling the pet's needs.

Services available include:  serving meals, treats and fresh water, providing exercise or play for the pets, brushing, administering medications, cleaning animal cages or litter boxes, watering plants, filling bird feeders, bringing in mail, and bringing in trash cans after collection day.

A big benefit to the animals involved is the fact that they stay in a familiar, comfortable environment, and receive individualized attention.

Pet sitters can charge varied amounts on a per visit basis or per animal.  Depending on the service, per sitting can start at around $14 per visit.
